How to use the IPL hub
The most useful cadence is: pick your contest a day ahead, read the preview the morning of the match, lock the team 30 minutes before the toss, and read the review the next morning. The four reads are designed to be read in that order, but the team pages and the role-balance template are useful on their own.
Team pages
We publish an editorial page for each of the ten IPL franchises. The pages cover the squad depth chart, the impact-player rules, the home ground, the captain's method, and the most-recent form for the players to watch. The team pages are not the official squad announcement — for that, the franchise's official site is the source. We host the reading that helps you evaluate a player for a fantasy pick.
Matchday previews
Each matchday preview covers the venue, the conditions, the probable XIs, the captain and vice-captain shortlist, the differential pick, and the contest-shape recommendation (head-to-head, mid-size league or GPP). The preview is published the morning of the match, with a toss update when the toss is announced. The toss update changes the captain pick in roughly 60% of matches — that is the only update worth checking for.
Post-match reviews
After each match, the editorial desk publishes a review that grades the captaincy calls, the differential picks and the contest-shape calls. The review is the only place on the site where you can see how the method did against a real result. The reviews are honest about the misses, not just the wins — a captaincy review that only highlights the hits is a marketing piece, not an editorial one.
The captaincy chart
The captaincy chart is a season-long ledger of every captain pick, the role, the contest shape, and the result. It is built up matchday by matchday. The chart is most useful at the half-way mark, when the season's pattern has settled but the playoff race is still open. We do not weight the chart by points scored — the chart records the method, not the outcome. A captaincy call that followed the method and lost is recorded the same as one that followed the method and won.
Role balance and the impact player
The IPL's impact-player rule is the single biggest structural change in fantasy cricket in recent seasons. The rule allows each side to substitute one player from a list of four, regardless of the playing XI. For fantasy, the impact player is treated as part of the squad but not part of the credits in some formats; in others, the impact player is a separate slot. Read the operator's rules on the impact player before you build a team — the wrong interpretation can void your captaincy call.
The role-balance template for IPL 2026
The default IPL 2026 role-balance template is four batters, one wicketkeeper, two all-rounders and four bowlers. The two-all-rounder shape is more aggressive than the T20I default of one, because the impact player slot often takes the second all-rounder's role. If you are entering a head-to-head, the safer four-batter, one-keeper, one-all-rounder, five-bowler shape is the better starting point. For a 100,000-entry GPP, the more aggressive shape with two all-rounders and a wrist-spin captain is the right read.
Venues to watch
The IPL's ten home grounds are not interchangeable. Wankhede in Mumbai and Eden Gardens in Kolkata are higher-scoring than Chinnaswamy in Bangalore and the PCA Stadium in Mohali. The surface, the square turnover, and the boundary sizes are documented by the BCCI; the editorial desk keeps a venue notes file for each ground that is updated after every match. The venue file is one of the inputs the captaincy chart uses.
What we will not do
We will not republish the official points table, the live scores, or the official squad announcements. We will not run paid "guaranteed winning team" pieces, and we will not allow advertisers to influence the editorial reads. What happens when a match is washed out?
The matchday preview is rewritten for the reserve day if one is scheduled, or a "match abandoned" note is added to the captaincy chart with the operator's refund policy.
