What a bonus code is, in plain language

A bonus code is a string (usually 6 to 12 characters) that, when entered in the operator's app during sign-up or in the wallet section, credits a reward to the user's account. The reward may be a cash bonus, a contest entry, or a deposit match. The reward, the eligibility conditions, the expiry, and the wagering requirements are all set by the operator and published in the official terms.

How to verify a code is current

Bonus codes change often. The code that worked last month may not work today. To verify a code is current:

  1. Open the operator's official site or the official app. The current codes are usually published in the "Offers" or "Promotions" section.
  2. Compare the code, the reward, and the expiry date against what you have been told. If any one of the three does not match, the code is no longer valid.
  3. Check the operator's verified social channels for the same code. If the operator has not announced the code, the source that sent it to you is not the operator.

The conditions, in plain language

Most bonus offers have four conditions that determine whether you actually receive the reward.

  1. Eligibility. Some offers are restricted by state, age, account age, or previous bonus history. The restrictions are in the terms.
  2. Minimum deposit. Most deposit-match offers require a minimum deposit. The minimum is operator-set and may differ across offers.
  3. Wagering requirements. A wagering requirement is the number of times you must play the bonus before it becomes withdrawable. A 5x wagering requirement on a ₹100 bonus means you must enter contests totalling ₹500 in entry fees before the ₹100 (and any winnings from it) can be withdrawn.
  4. Expiry. Most bonuses have an expiry, usually 7 to 30 days from credit. After the expiry, the unused bonus and any winnings from it are forfeited.

Reading the fine print

The fine print is the part of the offer that determines what you actually receive. Five things to look for:

  • The reward shape. Is it a cash bonus (withdrawable after wagering), a contest entry, or a deposit match? A deposit match is the most common; a contest entry is the most generous.
  • The maximum reward. A 100% deposit match up to ₹500 caps the bonus at ₹500, no matter how much you deposit.
  • The minimum odds or contest types. Some offers require you to play contests at minimum odds, or in specific contest categories. A contest that does not count towards the wagering requirement is a trap.
  • Excluded payment methods. Some offers exclude deposits made via certain e-wallets or UPI handles. The exclusions are in the terms.
  • The withdrawal cap. Some offers cap the amount you can withdraw from bonus winnings. The cap is a real number; it is not a marketing number.

What to do if no offer is currently active

If the operator does not currently list an active offer, do not invent one. The marketing pages and the operator's social channels are the only sources for the current code. If you see a code on a third-party site, treat it as unverified — the operator's eligibility check is the only source of truth.

04 · A budget boundary — a bonus does not change the deposit cap you set for yourself.

The budget rule

A bonus is not a reason to deposit more than your weekly cap. The cap is the cap — the cap you set for yourself before the bonus arrived. If the bonus pushes you to deposit more than the cap, walk away. The responsible play page covers the cap setting and the cooling-off rules.

Taxes on bonus rewards

Cash bonuses and deposit matches are subject to TDS under Indian tax rules. The operator deducts TDS at the rate set by the Income Tax Department and issues a TDS certificate. The bonus credited to the wallet is the post-TDS amount. The certificate is downloadable from the operator's tax section; keep it for your records.

What to do if the bonus is not credited

If you have entered a valid code and the bonus is not credited, the most common reason is a delay in the operator's eligibility check. The check can take up to 24 hours. If the delay exceeds 24 hours, contact customer care with the code, the date of entry, and a screenshot of the wallet section.

Warning

The reward shape, the eligibility conditions, and the wagering requirements are all in the operator's official terms. The marketing page may show a higher reward than the terms — trust the terms. If a code looks too generous, the wagering requirement is probably the catch.

Is the bonus withdrawable?

Only after the wagering requirements are met. The requirements are in the operator's terms and may differ across offers.

What is the difference between a bonus code and a referral code?

A bonus code is from the operator; a referral code is from an existing user. The eligibility conditions and the reward shape may differ. The two are usually tracked separately in the app's wallet section.

Can I claim more than one bonus?

Usually no. Most operators allow one active bonus at a time. The active bonus is forfeited if you claim a new one. Read the operator's stacking policy.
